MSL Curiosity has taken over the news cycle today by landing on Mars.
The rover's development started in 2004, and last night landed on the Mars surface is a widely broadcast scene of cheering from NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab. The rover is expected to be operational for over two years, collecting data to see if microbes could be living, or used to live, on the Mars surface.
News of the Olympic games was overshadowed by the NASA rover, and today the rover still dominates the news cycle. Many hope the success of the mission will lead to an eventual manned mission to Mars.
NASA's website at http://www.nasa.gov has more details on the mission, but is currently experiencing extended load times due to the event.
