EA Settles Suit - Keeps NFL Will Lose NCAA Exclusivity

EA has settled an anti-trust lawsuit. The terms of the agreement affects three franchises with exclusivity contracts with EA.

In the four year old lawsuit's proposed settlement, EA will keep control of its exclusive arrangement with the NFL. However, in 2014, EA loses its agreement with the NCAA and with Arena League football. This means other developers will be able to create titles in 2014 for two franchises they have been unable to touch since 2005.

The court and other parties have to still agree to the terms of the settlement. Sega, as a result, may restart its 2k series for NCAA football.

This is the second of three lawsuits. Previously, retired NFL players won a $28 million dollar suit against both EA and the NFL for using their likenesses without permission. A third suit, by NCAA student athletes under similar grounds as the retired NFL players, has yet to be settled.
