Many gaming sites love to make top 10 lists. Why does this practice continue?
This author has seen numerous lists like 'Top Ten Villains in Video Games', and 'Top Ten Sexiest Women in Video Games'. These highly subjective lists permiate gaming sites on days when the news is slow. Most usually, with multiple sites doing these sorts of things, their lists are almost all the same with only a couple of changes to make it 'their' list compared to any rivals.
Just stop, please.
Cracked.com does lists, but that is what they do best. Let the experts of comedy over there keep doing those lists. Video game sites should have more things to talk about than coming up with the latest fad in lists. What prompted this was two more posts from gaming sites, with the titles I menioned up above.
Now, with the Olympics, even places like the BBC and NBC are getting into the act. It will get worse as the Olympics move on. Then, when you think it is all done, both soccer and football will rise and here come more top ten lists for those sports. Ten best quarterbacks in the NFL? Big Ten? ACC? Those lists are coming as well. All of them are subjective, and is used strictly for filler and to provide debate during slow news days.
So, please, this author asks sites to find other content and hold the myriad of lists low and let experts like Cracked do them more frequently.
