Most of you that grew up in the 80s and 90s know MacGyver the TV show where Angus MacGyver would, with only his wits and odd collection of household items, solve puzzles and deathtraps. You could think of him as the very first life hacker, as he would show using one's mind was better then grabbing a gun to solve problems. Now, it 2014 and MacGyver is only show as a rerun. However, a little glimmer of the 80's remains now that MacGyver is back as mobile video game.
At first glance, and as a big MacGyver fan, I thought it would be cool to solve puzzles like there was on the show. To feel the wonder of using one's mind and power of deduction and imagination to solve each challenging puzzle. The game sets itself up like a long episode, with astage that has three types of puzzles from a redirect lasers, or pipe games, or other sort of puzzle. They are ones you see on most generic Puzzle games out there. It is not a deal breaker, but feels there could have been more to the game then just a set of similar puzzles that only get harder.
It makes me think of game on the PSP called Smart Bomb with the same premise. It did entertain for a while, but quickly lost its charm. with its enraging time restraints to get the level done. So, if you looking at getting MacGyver, I say get it if you are into puzzles when on the train, or at work, or something to pass the time. But, do not buy the in game add ons in order to win. Many mobile games do this, but I do not find the game worthy enough for such an expense.
The graphics look good, with a comic book come to life that responds a bit to phone movement. MacGyver is worth purchasing by fans of the show and, for something that for a little price .69P on Google Play, it is worth taking a look at.
