Because of the shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, we have been innundated with anti-violent video game messages, anti-gun messages, and the like. No one has mentioned the man in China stabbing with a knife 22 children in Henan province the same day, who did not play video games. The shooter in Newtown supposedly played Dynasty Warriors (NOT a FPS, though the media is attacking it as such) and Call of Duty. Earlier this week, LagSpike TV editor David West put up an editorial, attacking this assault against both guns and video games as trying to cure symptoms, not the root cause.
David is advocating something else this weekend, now, with the push by the gun and violent video game banning advocates in charge of sites like Gawker. David proposes we all play first person shooting video games this Saturday and stream our gameplay through sites like LagSpike.tv, Instagib.tv, and Twitch.tv.
Violent video games have been shown in study after study they do not cause the problems some wish to attribute to them. To show the many, many people who do not have problems playing video games at all, David feels we should all play the games the media hates, to prove just how many people play them.
So, please go out on Saturday and play first person shooter games. Join other broadcasters from LagSpike.tv as we broadcast gameplay. David, himself, though he is horrid at the game, will be broadcasting his gameplay of Planetside 2.
