Sim City is finally doing the (apparently) impossible, offline mode. After stating that it was in no way possible back at launch due to cloud computations and other seemingly weak reasons, we are finally seeing the ability to play the game without an internet connection. It really does make you wonder exactly what (other than the fear of piracy) was keeping the game from having this mode from the outset. In fact, the ability to run offline was made within a month or so of release by Reddit user UKRazzer to show just how easily it could be done.
While the update isn't breaking out of cover until a little later today or tomorrow, its going through its final rounds of testing before hitting the servers as we speak (type, talk, article, take your pick). Its great that this release in finally in place and the fans of the series are finally getting many of the things they have been asking for, but it may come more than a little too late.
The game has been hanging around running idle in my personal collection for almost as long as that despite the various updates to the game that have resolved issues such as terraforming and traffic. While this is the final part that seems to be realistically changeable (with city size apparently being beyond the realms of possibility), I still don't think this will be enough to warrant a replay.
But don't just take this from me, sound off in the comments below and let me know whether you feel this is enough to bring you back to the game. Were you all eagerly awaiting an offline mode or is there still enough wrong in this title to hold you back from giving it another whirl?
