Bioware has officially announced Star Wars the Old Republic is going free to play in the fall.
Going with a hybrid model, where you can go free or else you can pay for the unlocked version with more options, the game has been speculated to be headed to the free to play model for a while now. Initially successful, the game has been hemorraging players since.
Massively.com reports:
BioWare GM Matthew Bromberg said that this is the next logical step for the game: "Players want flexibility and choice. The subscription-only model presented a major barrier for a lot of people who wanted to become part of The Old Republic universe."
