WWE iOS App Review

By David West on 29/04/2024 21:49 UTC

During SummerSlam, the WWE ran a number of commercials, including one on their new WWE App for iOS and Android. How does it stack up?

This author downloaded the app moments after the advertisement finished. When it first starts, a shower of fireworks greets you then the categories of Breaking News, Raw, and Smackdown, along with a selection for My Universe, are given. Last night, the app did not scroll correctly but today it does, so it must have been an installation glitch some iOS apps have had previously. So, I suggest restarting your phone after installation just in case.

Hitting Breaking News, we see an article about SummerSlam and HHH, along with picture. Each article has the ability to push it to Twitter or Facebook, or to email the article.

Hitting Raw, you can go into a section called RAW Active. This is an interactive app connected to see content during RAW's Monday broadcast. In addition, sections reside for Videos, Photos, News, and Twitter/Social interactions concerning RAW. It looks like your tweets will show up in the app by using the #RAW hashtag on Twitter.

Hitting Smackdown gives you the same options, except for Smackdown.

My Universe is the most intriguing part of the program. Using hashtags based on your city of origin, you can see similar tweets in the same listing or else actually join the conversation and have your own tweets tagged automatically by the program to appear for your hometown. Thus, you are chatting with local folks about the goings on with the WWE. I can definitely see meetup potentials to watch in the future using this app.

What's disappointing, though, is the small ads at the bottom of each page section are not full blown parts of the app, just links to the appropriate websites. Being able to buy merchandise through the app would be a wonderful addition to it, as I was disappointed in having nothing to buy at Wizardworld Chicago when John Cena & CM Punk were not available. Having Tout, the WWE backed social network, not yet featured in the app is another disappointment. The ability to create a 15 second Tout through the app and connected to your Tout account would make the app even more appealing.

All in all, the application is well built and a good start for the WWE. If they take the recommendations above, this would make the app outstanding. Still, especially since it is free, if you are a WWE fan, get this app as soon as you can. You won't be disappointed.
