X-Men First Class: Days of Futures Past has been announced as the title of the next X-Men movie from Fox.
The comic book storyline with the same name forms the basis of all comics in the X-Men line since. It is the driving story behind mutantkind. In it, an older Katherine Pryde is sent back in time by Rachel Summers (Phoenix) in order to prevent a world of mutant concentration camps ruled by the giant robotic Sentinel mutant hunters. She succeeds in her mission, we think, as Marvel constantly teases the future may still come to pass.
In attempts to prevent this future, we have ended up with Age of Apocalypse, the appearances of Rachel, Bishop, and other future versions of mutants and hunters. The entire 'No More Mutants' arc, which is still ongoing in the comics and now culminating in the latest Avengers vs X-Men crossover, is also directly tied to the Days of Futures Past story arc.
Who will be cast in the roles involved has already been speculated. In the original comic, to protect Katherine from being killed before going back in time, Wolverine sacrifices himself. Would this, therefore, entail Hugh Jackman's appearance in the movie? Such speculation has already started on other sites.
Lagspike will be broadcasting live from Wizardworld Chicago, and we will be bringing you any further news from that convention.
