Well we here at Lagspike TV had the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new MMORPG that is being developed by an Indie company. Here is my first look at it. WARNING!!!! This is an alpha so things in game may get improved or changed from time to time. This is the system I have tested the alpha on:
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Language: English
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 635 Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.9GHz
Memory: 6144MB RAM
Video Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
Display Memory: 3817 MB
Dedicated Memory: 1001 MB
Shared Memory: 2815 MB
The game was easy to setup ONCE I followed the instructions. Anyone who knows me kind of knows that sometimes instructions are somewhat of a recommendation. Account set up was easy as well. What sets Kandor apart from other MMORPGS, is that it’s completely drawn in 2D. Yes this is a top down MMO that is likened to the days of Dragon Warrior, or Zelda. So graphics and memory intensive it’s not. The controls are simplistic making it easy for anyone to jump on and play the game. And this author admits that if he hadn’t stopped a few times during game play, he would have spent all night playing. Did I just talk about myself in the third person? Okay time to move on.
And what can I say about the community. Right now the community on the game is small but they are fun to play with. If you need help someone is always there to help you, and there have been several times when you go and kill something that you might die from, and just about when you take your last breath someone has walked by and healed you or killed it for you.
Now knowing this is an alpha we can’t have all good without the bad. Sorry Kando people being a true writer means writing the good and the bad. Right now if you have a multi core processor it is not optimized for it. As well while the controls are easy for anyone to learn they can be a little clunky, especially for us left handed people who have to take their hands off of the mouse just to move around. So you either have to play a class where you don’t need to target, or somehow make the frantic move from direction to attack and pickup, or one last option you can play this game almost completely from mouse if you had one with buttons that you can put a macro on. There is no key customization what so ever, if you wanted to full screen the game it doesn’t work all that great. And game music, PvP, and several other features are not implemented just yet.
Now that I tore it apart, let me say this all those features that are a problem are being looked into, so slowly but surely fixes are being implemented, features are being added, even new equipment and vanity items are being added. I’ve been on when the programmer fixed problems right on the spot when there was one, meaning the development team is really good at catching and fixing problems.
Now finally, I’ll give my honest opinion on the game. While it is still a work in progress, and it has a LONG way to go. I would put this on my list to watch. There are some other suggestions that I personally have for the game such as this game could really take off if it was ported to mobile phones such as Android or IOS, or even such games consoles as the new OUYA, or even the new NVidia Project Shield.
Again this is only Alpha, but hopefully I will be able to follow this project all away into release. If you are interested, you can apply for the alpha here:
