Ubisoft has released two new books in anticipation for the film “Assassin’s Creed” which opens to cinemas on December 11. The idea for the books is to “allow lifetime fans and newcomers alike to delve deeper into the world of Assassin’s Creed.”
As you might remember in February this year, the developers at Ubisoft released this blog post explainting why they will not release an Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. The reason for this is so that Ubisoft's developers can have some time to “evolve game mechanics” to make a more interesting and unique gameplay experience for their players. It is great; Ubisoft have finally realised that they aren't going to make sales by just churning out titles every year- they're ready to innovate.
Instead of a game this year, Ubisoft have overseen the production of a feature length film, “Assassin’s Creed” directed by Australian-born Justin Kurzel, who is known for Snowtown (2011) and Macbeth (2015). Assassin’s Creed: The Official film tie-in follows the story of Callum Lynch who unlocks his genetic memories using a revolutionary piece of technology. Lynch experiences the memories of his ancestor, Aguiar, who lived in 15th century Spain. Callum is quick to discover that he is descended from a secret assassins society where he soon learns incredible volumes of knowledge and skills that he is able to use against the powerful Templar organisation in the present day.
The book, which is written by Christie Golden will be available by the end of 2016 in the United Kingdom and will be distributed by Penguin Random House.
The second book that’s being released this year is a special behind-the-scenes artbook, showing off how the film “Assassin’s Creed” had been made in high detail. The book will contain all elements ranging between the design of 15th century Spain to characters and places. Of course, they didn’t leave out the behind the scenes of Abstergo Industries. Aside from the images the reading material consists of interviews with costume, set designers, and the film stars, Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard.
