A month after the first leaked images were posted to the internet, Activision and Sledgehammer Games finally revealed and confirmed the next entry in the hit Call of Duty series; Call of Duty: WWII.
That's right, Call of Duty is indeed going back to its roots. In an official reveal trailer, created using in game engine footage, we were given our first taste of what to expect out of this latest iteration in the Call of Duty franchise. After slumping sales for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and some...dodgy...decisions by Activision in regards to DLC and the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare remaster, Activision really had to hit a home run out of the gate to win back fans and casual FPS players alike. It seems that if everything else falls into place, they're off to a pretty solid start.
WWII confirmed.
Over two years in the making, Sledgehammer Games delivers a gritty, personal experience in the setting of the largest worldwide conflict in history to a new gaming generation in Call of Duty®: WWII. Play through the story of ordinary men turned soldiers in the 1st Infantry Division as they fight to preserve freedom in the face of tyranny. Call of Duty: WWII delivers fast-paced, boots-on-ground combat through iconic locations in the European Theater.
Three different game modes are confirmed for release; the single player campaign, co-op Nazi Zombies, and of course multiplayer. The single player campaign "immerses players and puts them in the perspective of the famed 1st Infantry Division." Using "stunning visuals and audio", players storm the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, march across France to liberate Paris, and push forward to Germany in "some of the most monumental battles of all time."
The mutiplayer experience "delievers a new approach to character and create-a-class through Divisions." another brand new mode, War, was also revealed but limited details were available at this writing. Headquarters, another new mode, is the first of its kind in a Call of Duty game and will allow players to socailze with friends.
Call of Duty: WWII will release on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on November 3rd, 2017.
