Nintendo, Niantic Labs and The Pokémon Company are in collaboration to bring the world the next Pokémon branded game- Pokémon GO.

Using GPS enabled Android and iOS devices, the free app will allow players to catch and play with their Pokémon in the real world. The announcement claims that “players will be able to catch, trade, and battle in the real world by utilizing location information.” No specific release date has yet been yet said, though it will release some time in 2016.

An additional device named the ‘Pokémon GO Plus’ is a wrist-worn accessory which connects to the players’ devices using Bluetooth. If a Pokémon is detected nearby, the GO Plus will give a vibration and light up with the convenience of letting the user achieve basic tasks without having to open the app on their devices.

As Nintendo have confirmed that the app will contain in-app purchases, it may prove controversial given that the game is generally marketed towards children.

From parent company Google, Niantic Labs specialises in location based mobile games with their latest release named ‘Ingress.’
