Nintendo have announced the closure of Club Nintendo for later this year meaning that your collected Club Nintendo stars will soon be worthless. The service which started in 2002 will be shut down in three stages.
From April 1, Nintendo will no longer include product registration cards with their games and consoles so no more stars can be collected. On April 20th, you will no longer be able to register digital products from the eShop where they will also no longer appear in the ‘My Registered Games & Systems’ page. In addition to this, surveys for downloaded software titles will no longer be available. September 30 will see the end of the Club Nintendo programme. All features including registration, earning stars and exchanging stars for items will no longer be possible from this date.
The New Nintendo 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL will not be registrable in Club Nintendo. This being said, the Majora’s Mask and MHU4 hardware bundles will still come with a product registration code, but only until April 30.
Remember to exchange as many stars as possible for items from the Stars Catalogue before September 30 as after this date your hard earned stars will render useless. Nintendo have written that they will keep adding more exclusive items in the store over the coming months.
A replacement programme will launch later this year. Members who sign up during the launch period of the programme will be able to download Flipnote Studio 3D to a 3DS system for free. Details of the programme are still sparse.
