It may sound like one of those cheesy lines from a TV Shop ad, but this one is actually true. The Kickstarter campaign for the board game based on the Dark Souls series asked for a £50,000 funding goal, which was reached in what may be record time.
While writing this article, the Kickstarter campaign has collected more than ten times the amount of their funding goal, and the total amount just keeps going up. The same can be said for the current amount of backers, which is currently nearing the 6,500 mark.
Players choose from a number of core character classes and explore dangerous locations full of monsters, treasures, and deadly boss fights. Designed specifically for the Dark Souls universe and introducing a number of innovative gameplay mechanics, with world-class miniatures faithful to the rich universe, this game delivers an experience that captures the very essence of the original video games.
Dark Souls: The Board Game comes from Steamforge games, who also developed the medieval football game Guild Ball. The board game is officially licensed and is described as a 1-4 player combat exploration game. And just like in the video game, the board game will have bonfires to level up and rest at. This will also reset the world and all the enemies you've defeated.
