At E3 2016, we had the opportunity to go Eyes On with the latest RTS title in the Dawn of War series, Dawn of War III.
Dawn of War III picks up after the events of Dawn of War II and follows three factions, The Space Marines, The Eldar, and the Ork Horde as they fight for a newly rumored "catastrophic weapon" discovered on the planet Acheron.
The demo we saw showed us a brief campaign mission featuring Space Marine commander Gabriel Angelos facing off against The Eldar. Throughout the demo, Gabriel fights alongside the Space Marine forces using various abilities both old and new. New abilities include God Splitter which allows Gabriel to leap across the battlefield and reduce foes into craters in the ground. Retribution also makes a return and has a knock back ability that also creates a temporary shield around Gabriel.
A new force called the Imperial Knight makes an appearance. The Knight is a massive mech that will deal massive amounts of damage overall. With Gatling guns for arms and a missile attack that can target up to 6 different areas, it was incredible. Players will also have the ability to call down an orbital strike that will eat up enemies that will get larger and larger the more enemies you take down.
Another huge reveal was that base building is making its return to the Dawn of War series. You can drop huge pods from space that contain players and as you move along can set up a mini base to help re-vitalize your army and your campaign. It was a huge request after Dawn of War II and I'm glad to see the developer embracing the communities requests.
You can watch our interview below and make sure you catch Dawn of War III when it releases in 2017 on PC. Senshudo will bring you the latest content around DoW III as we get it.
