We had the luck to play an early build for Deliver Us the Moon this year at E3. "Deliver Us the Moon is a moon survival exploration game. The Earth's resources are nearly depleted, so we at the WSA send a rogue astronaut to the moon to save humanity," said Jordy Velasquez, Business Developer for KeokeN Interactive. This year's E3 had a lot of space exploration games on the floor, but we were drawn to Deliver Us the Moon because of its solitary feel.
The arc of the game is to travel between several bases as an astronaut and gather information and research about gathering resources to fuel planet Earth. Gathering this information isn't the easiest task--it takes a lot of manipulating an awesome multi-tool that opens doors, fires lasers, and launches you forward (a laser-firing, skeleton key jetpack--sounds like my kind of tool). It's not entirely a solitary journey since there's a robot companion with you. Unfortunately, no appearances of a cloned Sam Rockwell, but we're heavily convinced the game has a lot of influence from the sci-fi flick Moon. It's interesting to note many indies this year have had motion pictures as heavy background influences, with Deliver Us the Moon no stranger to that wave of design.
The genre here is a bit of a mixed bag. When asked if the game was more of a horror genre, Velasquez responded, "It's not really horror. We play with it a little bit, but it's more of a hard sci-fi game," as my astronaut character switched a button and a brief jumpscare rustled my jimmies. "It's a very atmospheric 'you're alone' kind of game," he added. KeokeN plans to deliver the game Q4 in five episodes with a very rough estimate of 19.99 for an MSRP. Their Kickstarter was very successful, and we're hoping the game is as well, as details are a little under lock-and-key. Check out the story teaser below.
