Destiny is Bungie's upcoming Sci-Fi First Person Shooter MMO for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PC. Destiny was playable at E3 in Los Angeles this week, I was fortunate to get my hands on it and get a chance to play the competitive multiplayer side to Destiny in a 6 vs 6 capture the territories game mode.
Bungie has always found way's to improve its multiplayer experience with each new game its created. In Destiny Bungie has delivered a clean lobby interface allowing players to easily customize their character while loading into a match, dismissing the character customization screen presents you with a transition of your starship travelling with your team through slip space towards your destination.
Upon the completion of loading a small cutscene is played for the game mode you are playing displaying the characters of your team and the banner for the team, it adds a nice cinematic touch to the entrance of the gameplay.
Each class is equipped with their own skills and traits, you start off with your primary and secondary weapon fully loaded and ammo is easily picked up via crates placed round the map. Most maps are fairly closed quarters, at least from what we've played. Heavy weapons however don't start with any ammo and must picked up at a certain point during a match, providing a more balanced battle.
Special traits are filled by scoring a certain amount of points be from kills or completing objectives, upon filling your special skill simply press L1 and R1 at the same time would trigger your special trait. Its extremely satisfying when you trigger this and watch your character leap into the air and dive bomb the enemy team with a wave of dark energy.
People have asked me during my time here at E3 if its anything like Halo, in some aspect yes because we are dealing with the original developers of Halo however I strongly say a resounding no. And the reason for that is purely because while Bungie has taken on the past experience from their time making Halo, they've taken that experience and improved on it. From the lobby to the gameplay experience it’s a blast to play with friends and easily offers many hours of completive gameplay.
So if the completive multiplayer is anything to go off the open world aspect for the story mode will be even better and will deliver some interesting events, during story missions to the massive public events that you can wonder into.
We look forward to seeing more things from Bungie about Destiny in the near future.
