Destiny has officially become the most successful new game franchise launch of all time according to Activision. They managed to rack up $500 million in sales on day one alone, putting this well on track to become the next $1 billion franchise under Activision. It must be noted, however, that these figures encompass sales to retailers and other sales channels and therefore do not directly relate to physical sales to individuals. This doesn\'t lessen the achievement but is of note all the same.
This is certainly a fantastic achievement on the parts of Activision Blizzard and Bungie and certainly leaves the door open to sequels. Especially if you consider the phrasing Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg uses here: “We have more confidence than ever that Destiny will become one of the iconic franchises of this generation and Activision’s next billion dollar brand.”
Is this the sound of Destiny 2 being planned and considered just as Destiny hits shelves? Without giving too much away from our in-depth review of the title to be released soon, we certainly hope so.
