E3 2015: Master of Orion Interview

By AJ Hanson on 29/04/2024 21:51 UTC

At E3 2015 we had the opportunity to go Eyes On with the latest offering from WarGaming, a turn based strategy game called Master of Orion.

Based off of the popular 1990’s turn-based strategy game series Master of Orion, this latest offering from WarGaming serves as a reboot to the beloved series. After Atari sold off some IP’s due to bankruptcy a few years ago, WarGaming CEO Victor Kislyi, an admitted lover of the original MoO series, snapped up the IP and put his team to work on a reboot of the series.

The result; a stunningly impressive experience with some amazing features for new-comers and fans of MoO alike. The latest ‘Orion game sees the return of all of the original races including The Sakkara, The Bulrathi, and The Alkari. Each race have their own attributes, both positive and negative, and each race have unique ships to command. The detail in each race alone is incredible and the attention to detail doesn’t stop there.

After starting the game with a small territory of your own, the player is then thrust into the world that Master of Orion creates for you. With new territories to seek out, planets to explore and colonize, a seemingly endless web of skill trees to level and research, as well as an incredible exploration system, WarGaming have really set themselves apart from the pack once more.

The massive amount of customization in terms of the planets players can colonize are still there and still as complex as ever, however, new players or players who want an easier playthrough the first time or so can put the entirety of the planet customization and research on rails and see the outcome.

WarGaming told us they set out to make this version of MoO more accessible to everyone, not just the niche market that the original three games fell into and so far, it seems as if they have succeeded in that respect.

It looks to be an incredible experience, one that will have us here at Senshudo sinking countless hours into playthrough after playthrough. You can catch our interview with WarGaming about Master of Orion below, and pre-order the game here. No release date was given to us, but you can expect we will bring you the latest news on this impressive title as we get it in.
