EA wants more ports for the Nintendo Switch, and is using its upcoming release of FIFA 18 as its test bed.
While speaking to Edge Magazine, EA Vice President Patrick Soderlund explained; "...We want to be a part of the Switch and help Nintendo grow that installed base. But at the same time, we have to look at it from a resource stand point." He added that the number of game sales will be a huge factor in whether or not EA ports further titles to the Switch down the road.
"For us, its about supporting the platform, testing it out with big things like FIFA - and maybe a couple of others - and if they go well, I see no reason we shouldn't have as much of our portfolio on that platform as possible. I hope we get there, that would be my personal ambition." He continued.
We previously reported from E3 2017 how FIFA 18's Switch port will be a stripped down version compared to other platforms. Our concerns lie in whether or not EA would continue this trend going forward. If they plan on doing such a thing, it could hinder the idea altogether whereas if they actually put out full release versions of their titles, it could cause a huge upswing in not only numbers for EA, but for Nintendo as well. I personally would love to see something like Star Wars Battlefront or Battlefield on the Nintendo Switch at some point.
Only time will tell.
