Talk show host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, speaking on Fox & Friends following the horrific shooting in Washington, D.C. yesterday, suggested that people who play video games should be monitored.
It’s been a known fact that the mainstream media throw some pretty wide and absurd accusations for trying to find a reason a scape goat out of finding or dealing with the real issue. Behind these causes of mass violence, yet time after time again the mainstream media come back to Video Games because it’s a new form of media entertainment. Yet not so long ago in the entertainment industry films were the main absurd excuse for “the cause” of violence.
It’s a scientific fact that playing video games actually reduces the violence in children providing an outlet for their aggression. While those who are involved in shootings have played violent video games, you’ve got to ask yourself that men and women in the armed forces play video games as just one of many downtime activities. So suggesting that all gamers should be monitored is absurd and completely bonkers.
Which brings up the entire point of game ratings as this is just one of many things the mainstream media falls back on. Video Game ratings follow a similar and stricter rating system than film ratings. It’s down to the parents if they buy an 18 rated game and give it to their say six year old son, it’s down to the parent to sit down and make sure their kids understand what’s happening and if their worried about their kids playing such games. Don’t buy them until their older and mature enough to tell the difference between fiction and reality.
It’s about time the mainstream media woke up and realised that there have been no studies to confirm the link between playing video games causes violence. Or are we forgetting since the dawn of man we have been fighting wars and killing one another over the silliest things. Violence is in our very nature.
It’s how we are taught and raised that we know when violence is justified and not justified. Such as defending one’s self or family or country is justified. But the very fact that the mainstream media such as FOX News suggesting we should all be monitored, and the various other absurd comments such as banning video games. You will be putting millions out of work and declaring them mentally unstable for work. Wake up and realise that it’s not the games, it’s not the guns. It’s down to the person mental health! This is something America has a problem with even President Obama mentioned this, that more than 60% of Americans who suffer from mental illness have not be diagnosed or received any help with their illness.
So I urge the mainstream media in the meantime to keep these absurd acts of aggression against the video game industry out of the news until you have critical evidence that warrants you making such absurd and delusional things. Just as a closing point I would like to point out that even though the Army conducts various exercises they do use video game simulations to help train soldiers so remember if you take away video games it could even put your country at a slight risk for not helping soldiers get better training.
