Beyond Eyes is a beautiful looking indie game being developed by Sherida Halatoe (tiger & squid) and Team 17. The game puts players in control of a 10 year old blind girl called Rae, as she goes in search of Nani, her cat. The game itself is an explorative experience and all about how we perceive our world; the world starts blank, but as the players explore, audio, touch and memory bring the world to life in gorgeous watercolour visuals.
As Rae walks, she can feel the grass or cool water beneath her feet, and so grass or water is added to the game's visuals. In one example, Rae can hear a flapping sound, which she relates to her memory of a washing line in the breeze, so that's what's perceived. On closer inspection, however, the flapping noise turns out to be a scarecrow, something Rae is unfamiliar with and frightened of, the visuals change and darken to represent the characters emotions.
It's an exciting and new prospect that looks absolutely gorgeous rendered in its vibrant watercolor style, so we caught up with Sherida to find out more.
Beyond Eyes will be launching on PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One later this year.
