Elite Dangerous £10,000 Winner Announced

By Callum Polak on 29/04/2024 21:51 UTC

Following the release of Elite Dangerous last December, the developers at Frontier were quick to announce a competition for the first player to reach Triple Elite status with a prize of £10,000.
The competition also granted the chance for another three players to earn money from the event with a race to find the first player to reach Elite status in each discipline (Trading, Combat and Exploration), granting a prize of £1000 each. Three months later, Frontier boss David Barben has announced the winners.

First prize was claimed by Australian Commander Onepercent who had visited 10,342 unique star systems by travelling over 180,000 light years. CMDR Onepercent also tallied 9032 kills and 835,410 tonnes of traded goods to achieve Triple Elite status. From the Elite Dangerous forums, Onepercent briefly gave an overview into how he achieved such a feat.

‘This was when I started. Exactly: 18/12/2014, 10:34 PM
I Started with exploration first, Grantly the most hardest Elite of the 3. Took me 30 days to Get elite in Exploration, Then Trading which took me 18-19 days to get elite in (I reached a point where I was making 70 million credits per day) Then Finally Combat where I was able to do 600 kills per day right off the bat, The last 3 days I did 800 kills, 700 kills and 700+ kills respectively. (which took me 14 days)’.

Upon winning the competition, Commander Onepercent’s play time since December 18 was 1,029 hours, an average of 15 hours per day, or 42 days straight, depending on how you look at it.

Several forum users questioned Onepercent’s play habits and lifestyle, to which he responded:

  • I actually have a job, But it is casual. So therefore I just notified them that I cannot work for ~3 months.
  • I spent around 12-16 hours per day on this. I was relaxed but wasn't sleep deprived (only for the final 3 days) My friends were also notified and were supportive as well as my family.
  • About kills, I only killed NPC's with the exception of a couple or so CMDR's on the opposite team in conflict zones

Other forums users asked about how the name ‘Onepercent’ came aboard, where 1% replied with:

  • The official story with my name is One Percent Hull, I was in a sidewinder in beta 3 and got swooped to 1% hull and I managed to escape and repair just barely with my oxygen depleting.
