Lionhead Studios announced that its much anticipated upcoming Fable based multiplayer title, Fable Legends will be Free To Play at launch for the Xbox One and PC platforms.
The game will launch with a "story's worth of free quests, with more to be released episodically after launch." said Lionhead in its announcement. They also revealed that there will be no in game limiters or in game currency as seen in most other Free-To-Play titles. The four availabe heroes will be offered individually on a two week rotation, instead. "When a character you've leveled is switched out, you can either wait for them to return or pay to access them permanently." Your acquired items with every character, as well as XP will remain with the characters as you level them. Payments to Lionhead can either be made with in-game cash or with real-world money.
The right version of F2P is a very good thing for the world. The wrong kind is an abomination, but if you're very fair to your players and they can play as much as they want, then it seems right
Cross-playform multiplayer will also make its debut in Legends, something that if done successfuly could pave the way for more cross-platform titles in the future.
Fable Legends is due out in calendar year 2015.
