After teasing us with a few short trailers and a possible cover image, Ubisoft Montreal revealed Far Cry 5 officially today with an announcement trailer, and three character trailers.
"Far Cry comes to America in the latest installment of the award-winning franchise." reads the description underneath the announcement trailer, which you can view below. The game looks beautiful, as this is all in engine footage, and we're hoping its at least slightly more representative of what we're getting in game this time around than the Far Cry 4 trailer, which showed beautiful sweeping landscapes only to give us washed out textures in the actual game.
Welcome to Hope County, Montana. When your arrival incites the cult to violently seize control of the region, you must rise up and spark the fires of resistance to liberate a besieged community.
Freely explore Hope County’s rivers, lands, and skies with the largest customizable weapon and vehicle roster ever in a Far Cry game. You are the hero of the story in a thrilling world that hits back with every punch, and where the places you discover and the locals you ally with will shape your story in ways you’ll never see coming.
The character trailers introduce us to members of The Resistance; Mary May, Nick Rye, and Pastor Jerome Jeffries. The three characters featured seem to make up a massive part of the story line and it looks like Ubisoft might have learned their lesson from Far Cry 4 by making these characters much more in depth and driven along with your character.
Throughout the hills, valleys, and townships of Hope County, civilians of all walks have joined forces to resist against the cult, and rid their land of its chaos once and for all. Meet Jerome Jeffries: the Pastor.

Far Cry 5's release date was also revealed. The game will launch February 27th, 2018 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. More details were promised at E3 2017 and we will be there to bring you all of the latest news as we get it. We're excited to see where Ubisoft takes the franchise from here, and hope that they can change up a few of the "Ubisoft Gameplay Mechanics" this time around to make for a fresh experience for all.
