Haimrik, the Game Where Words Hurt

By Jeffery Wright on 29/04/2024 21:52 UTC

Take this premise: Haimrik, a boy living in Medieval times, has the power to fight the evil Word King and his band of cronies with words. The boy is protected by a lioness that considers him more of a treat than a companion.

The last time I did a journalistic equivalent of a double-take was when I played Rez ("You're a transcendent being that locks on to squares and fires musical beams of energy!") and Katamari Damacy ("The world is your boulder-oyster.") I'd have to rank these initial looks at Haimrik up there with those reviews, as the combination of a pen-and-ink graphical style, dark humor, the constant threat of death, and a Medieval world wrapped in what can best be described as an ancient wordsmith battle is a combination too interesting to pass up. We're just sad that the game can only be viewed at this point. Take a gander at this game from Below the Game and see how words can be mightier than s-words.
