Harmonix Releases Rock Band Survey: Is A New Rock Band On Its Way?

By AJ Hanson on 29/04/2024 21:51 UTC

Harmonix, developer of the insanely popular Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 series Rock Band, released a new survey Friday asking fans for feedback about "a new Rock Band Experience". The survey was released via email to all of their newsletter subscribers and on Twitter. It asks fans to give their feedback on a number of topics related to what will likely be Rock Band 4.

The survey starts by asking (of course) which of the previous Rock Band games you have played. It goes on to ask what you enjoyed the most about them, and what console you played them on. Going even further, Harmonix asks what instruments you already own or owned, how often you played during "peak times", and flat out why did you enjoy Rock Band?

Harmonix kicks things up to 11 with the next bit of survey content, however. Asking users to rank the features they find most important to a new Rock Band experience.

Options included:

  • A large on-disc soundtrack
  • Compatability of existing hardware
  • New weekly DLC
  • Compatability of existing DLC
  • Pro instruments/Pro Lessons
  • The ability to create/customize your own characters
  • Regularly updated in game events
  • A variety of Venues to play at
  • Online Multiplayer
  • Local Multiplayer
  • Completing with the world through a leaderboard type system.
  • Fixed campaign mode or modes

All in all, a great list of features and ones we would love to see in any music game, Rock Band or otherwise.

Harmonix also asks hypothetically if a new Rock Band experience were compatible with existing hardware if you would still purchase the game with newer insturments (either one instrument or a full set) or just the base game itself. The survey concludes by asking if you would be willing to pre-order a new Rock Band game no matter what is included OR only if Harmonix included a bunch of bonuses for pre-ordering.

It should be noted however that this does NOT mean Harmonix is working on Rock Band 4 at this time. A Harmonix representative was quoted as saying "From time to time, it's important for us to reach out directly to our audience and see what they're most interested in and excited about...this is a series that is near and dear to us as a studio. We're always thinking about it..What the plans for the future are remain to be seen, but feedback is always valuable."

Personally, this writer is excited at even the thought of a new Rock Band game and cannot wait to see what Harmonix has up it's sleeves. Would you purchase a new Rock Band game? What features from previous games would you like to see return? Are there any new features you've been dying for since Rock Band 3 was released? Let us know in the comments!
