KAIO: King of Pirates has walked the plank

KAIO: King of pirates was first announced back in 2011 as an upcoming adventure game and Nintendo 3DS handheld title by developers 'comcept'. (founded by the Illustrator and Co-designer of the Megaman character, Keiji Inafune). The game was to be based on the romance of the three kingdoms but the characters would be in the form of cute animals in the hopes that this would make the story more appealing to the western audience.

The release of the game has consistently been delayed but we hear today that the project has been officially cancelled by its publisher 'marvelous' which doesn't come as much of a shock to the majority considering news surrounding this game has been next to none in the past year.

This is a real shame as the game was to be part of a trilogy as this title was thought to take off and become one of comcepts strongest IP's. There were even talks of a TV series being planned.

The cancellation of the game is said to have cost Marvelous roughly $3.8million with no real reason being offered other than the company thought they should cut their losses as they felt the marketplace had shifted. Comcept will now be working on their latest upcoming title 'Mighty No.9'
