Kontrol Freek FPS sticks have been touted for years as the best investment you can make if you want to improve your controller based FPS shooting skills. I had heard of these sticks before, and even seen them at my local Best Buy, but had never really thought about looking into them until recently. A co-worker of mine was telling me how they dramatically improved his gaming skill in Call of Duty: Black Ops II after purchasing them. Call me skeptical...But how can two pieces of plastic and rubber attached to your control sticks really help you improve your skill? I decided to purchase a pair to find out...
I purchased the Kontrol Freek Vortex pack from my local Best Buy store after doing some research on the Kontrol Freek website. I decided that based off of the type of games I play with my controller and how I used my controller with both my Xbox One and PC, the Kontrol Freek Vortex series would be the best bang for my buck.
For those of you unaware, the Kontrol Freek sticks come in a variety of styles and options and are attached to your controllers thumbsticks as shown above. They work by extending the range of motion on your thumbsticks which in turn gives you better control over your aim and movements in games such as Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty.
The question that comes across most is "do they actually work?" After using them for about a week and a half, I can honestly say that they have improved my game quite a bit. Aiming is a lot easier and more fluid due to the increase range of motion I have on my thumbsticks. They also increased my comfort level while gaming as well. The regular Xbox One thumbsticks, while an improvement over the Xbox 360 thumbsticks still had a tendancy to dig into my thumbs after an hour or so of gaming, making extended play sessions extremely uncomfortable. The Kontrol Freek sticks eliminated that feeling all together within the first few hours, and my hands really only grew tired or sore after a few hours VS one hour with the regular thumbsticks. It was an amazing thing.
I was very skeptical of the sticks when I first got them, but Kontrol Freek has made a believer out of me through sheer force of trying them out. I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking to make a small investment in improving their gaming skill.
