During E3 2016, Sam Murray and I got to go hands on with Livelock, a top down shoot-em-up by Perfect World Entertainment.
Livelock is set in a near-future world where you and up to two other players must work together to "break the cycle of infinite war between machines." We got to play as two of the games characters, Hex and Vanguard, the DPS and Tank heroes respectively.
During the demo, Sam and I were lead around by one of the team who played as the third character.
Gameplay is similar to many other top-down shooters; you lead your character around and destroy everything in your path. Using varying abilities in harder fights. For example, Hex has an orbital strike he can call down and obliterate all the enemies it traps within it. His three weapons are all excellent and varied enough to make each have their own use. The anti-material rifle is great for sniping pesky enemies, the Oathkeeper is a stunning automatic rifle, and Hellfire fires grenades at enemies and does massive area damage. Players can also customize and upgrade their heroes with various abilities and armor over time. This is a neat feature and we can't wait to see more of this system.
The thing separating Livelock from other top down shooters, according to its developers is the story. We noticed that there indeed seem to be a rich backstory that was hinted to during our gameplay and the developer said that even more store content would be released.
Overall, Livelock is definitely a title to watch out for. It has potential to be a huge hit for PWI as long as the content is there. You can catch our developer interview below.
