Microsoft Mocks Playstation 4's Lack Of Backward Compatibility

By Elisabeth Elvestad on 29/04/2024 21:51 UTC

Last week Xbox One owners were given the opportunity to play some of their old Xbox 360 games on their new Xbox One console. Microsoft have now made a short instruction video to show how easy it is to continue to play your old games, both physical copies and digital downloads. The video itself can be seen underneath this article.

The video also contains a little stab at Sony and the lack of backward compatibility on Playstation 4. In the video, one host asks how much the backward compatibility costs while the other host replies with: "Nothing! Why would you pay for something you already own?". This is likely a mockery of the fact that Sony customers have to repurchase their old Playstation games if they want to play them on a Platstation 4 or a PS Vita, or subscribe to Playstation Plus to have access to Playstation 3 games. It is very unlikely that Sony will change this in the future, according to an older interview by Polygon

The video can also be seen as a very late reply to Sony's mocking video two years ago. Back then, Shuhei Yoshida and Adam Boyes showed how easy it was to borrow games for your Playstation 4, which was a mockery of Microsofts current plans of implementing a user restriction which they later dropped.
