Mordheim, the gang versus gang miniature game from Games Workshop, will be coming to the PC this holiday season. Based in the world of Warhammer Fantasy, a comet struck the city of Mordheim, leaving behind valuable shards coveted by the various factions within the remains of the city. The player vs player game concentrates on retrieving those shards. Build your gang over time, work to gain shards, and become more powerful.
To account for actions, action points similar to those used in X-Com are used. Unlike the miniature game, play alternates between characters instead of all assets moving on one side and then the other. This makes for a more balanced system for online play. Like the miniatures, terrain can be used to move stealthily, or to give an advantage for unit sniping or overwatch.
The graphics look nice in what I saw of the game, the skaven standing out. If we get the game for review, we will see if strategies from the board game work with this version. I am looking in forward to seeing this on Steam, as the developers said they were planning to develop a SteamOS version of the game as well.
Focus Home Interactive has acquired a number of licenses from Games Workshop, meaning we should be seeing more games from them. Mordheim is a good starting point, however, considering its concepts.
