The original Nintendo Entertainment System provided millions of people with access to a new form of entertainment in the 1980's; video games. In the 30+ years since, the NES has remained a staple in many retro gamers households, ushering forth a new generation of gamers. PDP Products hasn't forgot that...And has created a case for the iPhone 5 to celebrate the NES controller. Is the case a cheap knock off or can it be considered as a case for every day use?
The first thing I noticed about the case was how sturdy it is. It is made of high grade plastic and has a great feel to it. Upon snapping it onto my phone, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the feel of the overall case. It didn\'t weigh down my phone too much, and looks really nice against the white front of my phone. The buttons for power and volume all work really well with the case on, and the volume buttons actually work better with the case on than with them off. My one overall critisim of the case itself is that you can't put headphones with larger 3.5mm jacks into the case, they won't fit due to the design of the case.
The best part about this case has to be the back of the unit. The buttons of the "controller" actually function. You can press them and feel them depress beneath your finger. Its an amazing touch that makes this case top notch in my book and I've found myself spending time more often than not pushing the buttons on the back and holding it like I would the actual NES controller. I've even demonstrated a few classic moves to people playing in the retro-gaming area of E3 with the controller.
Admittedly, I've dropped the phone a couple times since I've got the case and I was worried that it would break or the phone would shatter. Neither of those things happened and the phone and case are still in amazing condition. I was shocked. I thought the harder plastic of the case would at least show a mark or two but none appeared.
Overall the case is a worthy and successful entry into the iPhone 5 Case market. If this is any indication of the things to come from PDP Products, they're off to a great start!
