Last week Turtle Rock Studios, developer of Evolve, announced the addition of Observer Mode (in which players will be able to spectate on other matches) as part of a free update in the coming weeks. Today, they made a second announcement, two brand new maps will be available for free download on Xbox One on March 31st, and then PlayStation 4 and PC on April 30th.
The two new maps differ considerably from current content in their setting. The first, Broken Hill Mine, is set entirely underground in the twisting labyrinth of an abandoned mining complex. Expect close-quarter firefights and claustrophobic chases through “the mine's tight confines”. Monsters will have less room to flee wildly, and instead the map will focus more on stealth and misdirection through destructible walls.
The second map, Broken Hill Foundry, takes players out of the wilds of Shear and into an industrial complex, with “an overlapping mix of open areas, corridors and low ceilings” which “create new tactical options for both Monster and Hunter players” alongside the open streets and rooftops of a town with plenty of hiding spots for the Monster to pounce from.
The full announcement can be read here.
After Evolve received strong criticism for the amount of (optional aesthetic) DLC available on launch, it is nice to see that Turtle Rock Studios and 2K are holding to their statement that all new content would be available for free, and that the only premium DLC would be skins and other aesthetic options.
