Nintendo's latest Direct presentation concluded last night, and brought with it a wealth of updates on existing projects, as well as a few new surprises.
The biggest news was two instalments in the Fire Emblem turn-based strategy series: a sequel to Fire Emblem: Awakening for the 3DS (name TBA), and a trailer for the Shin Megami Tensei mashup for Wii U. The latter was first announced in 2013 but had gone dark, with Nintendo only reiterating that it was still in the works. Both are expected to launch in 2016.
The Wii U hasn't surrender 2015 entirely, however. Squid paintballing powerhouse Splatoon was confirmed for a 29th May European release, with level editor Mario Maker and the adorable Yoshi's Wooly World due around September. Downloadable content is on the agenda until then, with Lucas and Mewtwo both rejoining the fray in Smash Bros, and a supercharged 200cc mode for Mario Kart 8 debuting alongside its planned DLC packs.
If none of that takes your fancy, Nintendo still have a few ideas to empty your wallet. Three more waves of their Amiibo figurines have been confirmed for May, June and September respectively, including characters from Splatoon and three separate plushie Yoshies. For the nostalgic gamer, N64 and DS games are joining the Virtual Console, with Super Mario 64, DK 64, Mario Kart DS and Yoshi's Island DS to open proceedings.
It wouldn't be a Direct without some quirky eShop titles, either. Kirby and former Smash Bros developer HAL demoed their monochrome puzzler Box Boy, an Attack on Titan dungeon-crawler is due in May, and a cute Animal Crossing spin-off plans to flesh out the home decorating element with the help of new Amiibo Cards - basically a cheap Amiibo to scan in the game's more minor characters.
That about does it. It having been April Fool's yesterday, I'll understand if you want Iwata-san to confirm it all too.
