A recent report by Eurogamer has Nintendo fans old and new alike foaming at the mouth. According to the report, Nintendo's upcoming console, the Nintendo Switch, will support Gamecube Virtual Console titles.

Eurogamer reports that three games are already prepared and run on the Switch; Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion, and Super Smash Bros. Melee. Animal Crossing is also currently being tested.

Currently, it is unknown how many past platforms will run on the upcoming console but there have also been rumblings of an upgrade program similar to what Nintendo did with the Wii titles on the Wii U where owners of previous games can purchase the game on the Switch at a discounted price.

The compatibility design is said to be handled by Nintendo Eurpoean Research and Development (NERD...heh), the same team that created the NES Classic Mini.

Nintendo is also apparently working on a way to use the Wii U Gamecube controller adapter with the Switch, but there is no solid confirmation on this as of this writing.
