Nintendo Switch Street Date Already Broken

By AJ Hanson on 29/04/2024 21:52 UTC

At least one retailer will have some explaining to do as NeoGAF user HipHopTheRobot revealed that he recieved his Nintendo Switch two weeks early. Sadly, he has absolutely nothing to play on the system currently, as can be expected.

"I have no games at all" he posted on the NeoGAF thread, "...all I can do is flip through the menus." He later posted a video on Vid.Me doing just that. He shows the initial setup process for the Nintendo Switch and then proceeds to show off some of the much anticipated (and mostly hidden until this point) features of the Nintendo Switch UI. His video confirms a few things that were previously rumors with Nintendo Switch Themes being one of them. In the box, you'll get a White and Black theme with (we're assuming here) the ability to purchase more themes via the Nintendo E-Shop a la the Nintendo 3DS.

NeoGAF users tried to get HipHopTheRobot to go online with the device to check out the Nintendo E-Shop and while he was initially hesitant, he said he eventually tried and was given an update error with the system. His fears might not have been misplaced though, as most of us can remember when retailers started shipping the Xbox One early and Microsoft started banning those consoles from Xbox LIVE. To their credit, Microsoft eventually relaxed the bans, noting that it wasn't the fault of the purchaster, but the retailer who sold it to them. We're just not too confident in Nintendo having the same lighthearted mentality when it comes to their products.

It does give us a long look at the UI of the Switch, however, which looks like a cross between a Playstation and Android interface. Its pretty quick and snappy too, and that excited a lot of users.

Hopefully this leak will have Nintendo releasing some more information and videos via official channels soon enough.

The Nintendo Switch will release worldwide March 3rd, 2017.
