Oh boy, Nintendo...We need to talk.
Not 24 hours after the big Nintendo Switch reveal stream, a few details reached us about the barely explained Nintendo Switch Online service that Nintendo will be rolling out this year.
After the free trial period expires sometime this fall, subscribers to the service will recieve a few benefits that include online gameplay, online lobby/voice chat, "exclusive deals", access to the Nintendo E-Shop, and monthly game downloads.
Theres a bit of a catch with that last one, however... According to Wired's Chris Kohler, a Nintendo of America representative explained that the free NES/SNES titles that are available as part of that subscription service are only available for that month. According to Kohler, that means that those free games will only continue to be available if the user purchases them.
I'm sorry...WHAT?!
This is 2017... Microsoft and Sony both give you free games that you can actually keep every month as part of their subscription service.
We've reached out to Nintendo on social media to try and get some clarification on this one, as this is quite puzzling indeed. We're hoping this is a miscommunication on someone's part and that you will actually be able to keep those games, or this could end up being Xbox One reveal levels of bad.
Stay tuned, we get the feeling its going to be a wild ride, folks.
