At E3 in 2014, Nintendo teased an ‘upcoming’ title for the Wii U. The game which never really had a definite name, dubbed “Project Giant Robot,” has been confirmed to have been scrapped and will not be released.
Demoed by Shigeru Miyamoto, alongside the games that turned out to be Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard, “Project Giant Robot” was only shown off a handful of times during the event. While the game looked as if it had potential, there unfortunately wasn’t a whole lot to it other than fighting other customisable robots in a 1v1 arena.
On January 31st, Nintendo published their latest earnings report where Project Giant Robot was nowhere to be found whereas the game was listed as “upcoming” on 2016’s Q3 earnings report.
Nintendo confirmed to Polygon the status of development on Project Giant Robot where they replied that the title had been scrapped. “We made this decision after considering our overall product and development strategy,” the developer stated.
In January 2017, Nintendo confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild would be the last first-party title to arrive on the Wii U. After this Nintendo are ready to begin full focus on the Switch console with that and the new Zelda title both being released on March 3.
