Yesterday, the future of No Man’s Sky became further apparent as developer Hello Games announced their game’s “Foundation Update,” which will include the addition of the previously discussed base-building feature.
The Foundation Update is scheduled for release within the coming week and was given its name as it adds in a base-building feature as well as “a foundation for things to come.” Hello Games has said that full patch notes for the update will be announced soon.
Hello Games also mentioned that they’ve been “hard at work” on the update for more than nine weeks although adding that it will not be the largest update ever for the game.
The controversy that has surrounded No Man’s Sky since launch has been acknowledged by Hello Games and they have since published a statement regarding their silence.
"The discussion around No Man's Sky since release has been intense and dramatic. We have been quiet, but we are listening and focusing on improving the game that our team loves and feels so passionately about," it said. "Positive or negative feedback, you have been heard and that will truly help to make this a better game for everyone."
Hello Games also mentioned that the Foundation Update will be the “first step in a longer journey” and says “we hope you can join us.”
During an interview on “Live with YouTube Gaming”, PlayStation executive Shawn Layden states that he believes that No Man’s Sky will eventually become closer to what Hello Games imagined it to be. "They're still updating it. They're trying to get it closer enough or closer to what their vision was," he said. "I think what we learned from that is that we don't want to stifle ambition. We don't want to stifle creativity," he added. "We don't want to put people into slots where they must execute against an action adventure path or a fighting path or a shooting path.”
