Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire Soar As Smash Bros U Hit By Stock Issues

By Alex Bullock on 29/04/2024 21:51 UTC

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are officially the biggest Pokemon launch titles ever, hitting sixth and seventh respectively in this week's UK charts.

The 3DS re-imaginings of GBA classics Ruby and Sapphire outsold last year's flagship titles X and Y, as well as previous record-holder Black and White for the original DS.

While the 3DS seems set for a solid Christmas, the Wii U is showing little sign of establishing itself as the go-to 2nd console. One of its most hotly anticipated titles with casual and hardcore crossover, Super Smash Bros, only managed 10th position with combined 3DS and Wii U sales. However, this comes on the back of significent stock shortages, with reports of stock recalls on Gamecube adapter bundles, and delays to pre-orders for controllers and adapters.

Elsewhere, Sony and UK games industry advocates will have mixed emotions, as the well-received LittleBigPlanet 3 only managed a dismal 18th place, while the underwhelming DriveClub has shot up to 8th on the back of Black Friday deals. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and FIFA likely take the top two spots for similar reasons, while the heavily discounted Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag also returns to the top 10.
