As gamers get those eagerly awaited new consoles or games they’re so eagerly awaiting to play, gamers are being met with a number of obstacles today as both PlayStation Network and Xbox Live are down. While not officially confirmed, speculation has arisen this is largely due to a massive distributed denial of service attack (DDoS).
While both companies work to resolve the issue, questions are starting to be asked about why anything hasn’t been done to combat the rising issue of “LizardSquad” or various script kiddies attempting to gain attention, who think the next cool thing to do is to disrupt a service with DDoS attacks.
Currently the best way to keep an eye on the situation is to monitor both Sony and Microsoft via social media pages to find out when the services are back up and running as both company' websites at times seem to be unresponsive.
Here’s wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, and fingers crossed we can all get back to our online gaming soon.
