After dedicating the last three years of his life to the making, Reddit user Criand spends 1800 hours working on a 1:1 recreation of ARMA II’s Chernarus in Minecraft.
In a Reddit post on r/gaming, Criand explains that the project began in May 2014 and was an on/off process until the map was finally finished in late May 2017. You can take a look around the beautiful and accurate map in various ways. Firstly, the map has a trailer, highlighting some main gameplay aspects as well as displaying some of the cities and other locations around the map.
A huge Imgur album containing a 52 screenshots was released too, showing off every major location with incredible detail that you might recognize including Devil’s Castle, Stary Sobor, and of course the three airfields. If that wasn’t enough for you, there’s also an interactive zoomable map which will make you appreciate this project even more.
The map’s size is an astonishing 15,616x14,720 blocks in size which equates to 229.86km² whereas Chernarus from ARMA II is 225km².
Despite the map not having a public download (although it will do “eventually”) you can join a server which is hosting the map and gamemode. It doesn’t require any additional mods so you can just log in and play. The IP is play.mcraftz.com.
