To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Civilization series, 2K and Firaxis Games have announced the next entry in the award-winning series; Civilization VI.
Launching on October 21st, 2016, Civilization VI will "offer players new ways to interact with their world, expand their empire across the map, advance their culture, and compete against history's greatest leaders to build a civilization to stand the test of time."
Christopher Hartmann, President of 2K said of the announcement "We can't think of a better way to celebrate the silver anniversary of our longest-running franchise than launching the eagerly anticipated Sid Meier's Civilization VI...Which will provide the most detailed, beautiful, and complete experience ever featured in a Civilization game."
The game is set to have many returning and new features to the series including:
Expansive Empires: Players will be able to see their empire spread across the map like never before. Each city will span multiple tiles so that they can custom build cities to take full advantage of the local terrain.
Active Research: This will allow players to unlock boosts that speed up the civilization's progress through history.
Dynamic Diplomacy: Players interactions with other civilizations will change over the course of the game. From the primitive first interactions at the start to late game alliances and negotiations.
Combined Arms: Civ VI expands on the "one unit per tile" design; support units can now be embedded with other units like anti-tank support with infantry, or warrior with settlers. Similar units can also be combined to form new Corps Units.
Enhanced Multiplayer: Players will be able to cooperate and compete with friends in a wide variety of situations all designed to be completed in a single session, in addition to the traditional multiplayer modes found in previous Civilization titles.
A Civ For All Players: Civilization VI will provide veteran players with new ways to build and tune their civilization for the greatest chance of success while new tutorial systems are designed to introduce new players to the underlying concepts of Civilization so that they may get started on their path to victory.
A new trailer was also released and can be seen below. We will have more information on Civilization VI as we get it, and expect to see it present at E3 in Los Angeles next month.
