This week’s soundtrack was a very close call between Assassins Creed II and Assassins Creed IV: Black Flag. In the end I had to pick one, and I decided that Black Flag has the edge over AC II. Black Flag is an open world action-adventure developed by Ubisoft Montreal and set in the early 18th century during the golden age of piracy. You play as Edward Kenway, a notorious pirate who is flung into the conflict between the Assassins and the Templars. The soundtrack was composed by “Brian Tyler” who is known for creating the music for Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and FarCry 3 as well as various other big film and game releases.
As the game is set in the golden age of piracy, the music reflects this perfectly. Booming drums, heavy layers of percussion and the unmistakeable string sounds that every single piece of pirate related music has. However, some of the soundtrack is a little different and holds a more rocky vibe such as “The Ends of the Earth”
With its melancholy riff at the start that develops into this full rock band driving a sad undertone throughout the song. The different styles and genres in the soundtrack make for interesting listening and all give you an adrenaline pumping, slightly hectic feeling.
With the unmistakeable feeling of piracy throughout the soundtrack, it makes for a perfect atmosphere in the world of Black Flag. With big sound tracks like “Pyrates Beware” and the sheer size of the open world in Black Flag, it makes for a brilliant game to play and replay.
The whole soundtrack is totally worth a listen and can be bought on Itunes for $10.99 (£10.99) or Amazon for $9.49 (£7.49). The game can be bought on Steam for $59.99 (£39.99).
