Soundtrack of the Week

By Dire Flows on 29/04/2024 21:51 UTC

With a short break, Soundtrack of the Week (SotW) is back! And this week it goes to Halo 2. This brilliantly mastered piece of epicness in a can utterly blew me away so many times. A combination of orchestral, rock, and contemporary classical all melted down into one awesome to listen to soundtrack!

The soundtrack was composed by Martin O’Donnell who wrote and composed for Halo, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST and Halo Reach. Recently, Bungie fired O’Donnell suddenly and without any statement as to why. Which is, in my opinion an incredibly stupid move because of the pure genius that O’Donnell is when composing.

The soundtrack is very unique in its style, often combining multiple genres and giving different moods and feelings to fit the gameplay. From suspenseful high intense action scenes to more unnerving and sinister sounds, the soundtrack spans a large field and fits in perfectly with the sci-fi feel of Halo 2.

With tracks like “Ancient Machine” that give an incredibly creepy intense feeling,

And tracks like “The Halo Theme (Mjolnir Mix)” which puts an interesting twist on the original theme,

It’s hard to not love a song out of the soundtrack because there is just so much to choose from. Each and every track is wonderfully made and when playing Halo 2, builds a brilliant and immersive environment.

The soundtrack can be bought on Amazon and iTunes in two separate volumes and are totally worth buying for the amazing effort and skill gone into the tracks. Halo 2 is for original Xbox and PC. Unfortunately it isn’t available for Sony systems or Mac.
