Crowdfunding has become quite popular in recent years. From Kickstarter to Indiegogo and other sites, it has allowed many projects to see the light of day that might not have had a chance otherwise. Its been incredible. One such project, space exploration RPG Star Citizen has done the unthinkable, in 6 years of development, they've raised $141 million dollars.

Not only that, but the developer Cloud Imperium Games' boss, Chris Roberts released a "Happy New Year" statement which talked about some of the plans for the title in the coming year.

Roberts stated that the efforts were being made to refine and enhance the games engine, Lumberyard. The development switched from CryEngine to Amazon's Engine late last year and so far, the reaction has been positive. Roberts also revealed that reaction to the 2.6 Alpha release have been overwhemlingly positive and that update 2.6.1 will be released "shortly" that will add in features that slipped past the 2.6 update window.

With all of the ancitipation and hype leading up to this title, and the massive amount of money raised, heres hoping this doesn't end up being another "No Man's Sky".

No release date for the final version of Star Citizen has been set.
