Developer Dovetail Games revealed back in the summer that a "fixed" edition of FSX was on its way to Steam with a release date of sometime around the end of the year. A date has been given for a December 18th release.
FSX Steam Edition will include more than 20 aircraft, 24,000 airports and over 80 missions which include races and test pilot scenarios. Dovetail promised that an improved multiplayer functionality will also be restored after GameSpy closed down the official servers to the simulator in 2012.
Microsoft have not allowed the Studio to update any graphics due to terms with licensing so the simulator will not look like a brand new release. Dovetail had also said that a range of add-ons will be launched in 2015. Although they have said that they will launch their own add-ons, Dovetail have not said anything about community made add-ons for the first edition of FSX so I question whether I can use my already purchased additions to the game in the Steam Edition.
