On Thursday evening, Nintendo held their first Direct presentation since Satoru Iwata passed away four months ago. Already ahead of the presentation, the Japanese company said that they wouldn't talk about the mysterious NX console but instead focus on their upcoming games for the Wii U and the 3DS.
As per usual, we got served a fair amount of news - some more interesting than others - and one of the bigger announcement was that we'll be getting a polished version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The rumors about a new version of the game surfaced a month ago, and now we finally got a confirmation from Nintendo that the game is indeed on it's way.
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD should arrive for Wii U consoles on March 4th 2016, and will of course include better graphics and new game sequences that weren't included in the original game. This new version of the game will also have support for Amiibos and Nintendo will release a brand new Wolf Link Amiibo along with the game. The data that is stored on this is supposedly also supposed to be transferable over to the next game in the series.
New Zelda game is still scheduled for next year
During Thursday's presentation, Nintendo repeated once again that Links next adventure - which still hasn't been given an official name - will release for Wii U some time during 2016. The game was first announced during E3 in 2014, but was confirmed delayed in March this year.
Since the announcement of Nintendo NX many have speculated if the Zelda-delay means that the game will be released for the new console, but Nintendo still insist that the game will be released for Wii U. This does however not exclude the possibility of the game being released for both consoles, like what happened with Twilight Princess which was released on both the Wii and the GameCube back in 2006.
The last announcement worth noting is that the DS games The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks now can be downloaded to Wii U's Virtual Console.
